"The littlest birds sing the prettiest song..." Love that song verse from the Canadian music group.. The Be Good Tanyas. To let you in on a secret, I have been calling my little girl Rosie..."my birdie" for a long time now...have prayed for her for months and months.. actually years! And I have a birdie verse from Psalms. It is Psalm 84.... I remember writing the verses in my journal in college and carrying Psalm 84 with me everywhere.. reading it over and over until it became part of my life. And each part of this chapter brings deeper meaning as the years pass and as life bops along. It starts:
"How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young- a place near your altar,
O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you."
I love the part about the sparrow.... if Rosie was a bird, she would be this little sparrow. And what is so sweet is that God is bringing her home.. to her family and we are preparing a nest for her half way around the world. Little does this birdie know what she has waiting for her.
Another verse I love is Song of Songs 2:11
"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing ( of birds) has come."
This past weekend at the Rosemary art show, my sweet friend, Denise, who makes amazing children's clothes and all sorts of fun things told me she had something for me. Two years ago I saw a little dress that I fell in love with and Denise had made it for the art show. And without me knowing, she held onto it for two years and then gave it to me this weekend! I was so happy! To receive this precious little dress with birds on it was extra special! To think of this birdie dress and then Psalm 84 and Song of Songs was just too wonderful! Thank you so much Denise!
My heart is so full and I want to savor every part of this journey of getting Rosie.. of traveling to Russia, seeing her in the orphanage, soaking in the culture of her land and Sam's land too. I want to really take the time to "see" what is around me and tuck it away in my heart as a memory. And these memories will be a keepsake as Rosie and Sam get older and as Mike and I can tell them these stories and adventures of flying half way around the world to bring them back to their nest.
And here are my little birds, Sam and Rosie. I can only imagine them both together and chirping around the house. Sam is soo excited about his sister and today, he helped pick out some things for Rosie. He has been going around the house and gathering some books and toys for her and just to see his little brain in action and the anticipation of having his sister is a treat to watch!
So we are bustling around, packing our suitcases and enjoying the excitement that surrounds our house. Yep, another journey awaits in less than 48 hours. Saturday at 3:30 pm we will be on a plane heading for Moscow and then another plane for 5 hours heading to Krasnoyarsk. And then... we'll drive 3 hours to Kansk, hopefully on Monday to meet Rosie, our little bird!
Thanks to all who have donated clothes to the orphanage! We have a big bag filled with stuffed animals and clothes and jackets! And thank you sweet Stephanie for dinner! It was delicious!
