House of Rose

A big dream of mine in high school was to be a fashion designer...... I had it all planned with my friends.  We'd live in New York City and I would design clothes, Denise would go on Broadway and dance, and Tiffani would be a policewoman ( only if she could have a fancy horse).  So I'd dream about making  frilly dresses with some Lanvin type chiffon and embroidery thrown in as well.  However, not all went as planned.  My friends went off to different schools and made new dreams. And I had some road blocks,  first road block was that I really didn't love to sew... which makes for a bad start in the fashion industry.  Second road block was that my college road led to a southern school and not Parson's School of Design.

So, all that to say, my dream kind of melted away like cotton candy turned upside down.

But I still loved to draw clothes and design dresses even if it was on my biology notes in college.

Yes, art was still in my soul and heart.... I doodled and drew flowers and dresses through my twenties.
But then, something happened in my 30's.  I started to really draw and paint and people actually bought my paintings!

It all has been progressing over the years. But in my heart, I am still a "wanna be fashion designer"'; except now, I have realized that I can design dresses and paint them and place them on canvas!  And the best part is... I dont' have to sew!
I just use some imagination and research the old vintage dresses... add paper here... fabric there.... rose petals here.... paint there... and voila!... a little creation from my own two hands!

Pic above is pure inspiration to me and from this wonderful site!
(House of Ellwand is where these beautiful dresses were created.)

With all that being said,  I am very excited about the new adventure in the art/fashion world.  Have some ideas brewing and will reveal them as spring approaches.  But will give some hints...

1.  Will be creating my own little "house of fashion" in my studio these next few months.

2. Have ordered some rose petals, leaves, twine and homemade paper.

3. Sketching and drawing on these cold Alabama days.

And in a few weeks, "The House of Rose" ( my house of fashion) will be revealing some new things.

so stay tuned!

Dream Bike

Petro_back

Just discovered this bike while browsing around the good ole internet....

it's     a m a z i n g.

It's called the Petro Zillia from Electra Bikes. I've never heard of the fashion designer Petro Zillio,so had to look him up.  (After seeing his prices on clothing, I realized why I have never heard of him).

Electra is the winner of creativity and imagination out there in bike world, but this one takes the cake of cakes... oh my... it's filled with whimsy and color, and brightness and cheer, and I think if one rides this bike they would be laughing the entire time and singing too! So I researched and called a store to find out more about this "petro zillia", but was sad to hear... it is not available anymore. Oh, well, maybe some dayI can find it on ebay.  But it's fun just to look at it with all it's merriment.

Now I'm thinking... well, I could get some paints out and put some flowers on my own bike... and some stripes...swirls maybe....

Could make a fun basket liner like this pink polka dotted one...
But then again, I like my Pink simple bike just fine..... So, I'll just have fun looking at the petro zillia and imagining myself riding around the beach pathways on it with all it's design and frolick buzzing around.

P.S. Ok, I may add some poms poms to mine, just to give a little whim and flair:). Annnndd maybe a polka dotted liner in the basket too.  Yep, that would be perfect!
P.S.S. Anyone out there with this Petro Zillia?... will trade painting for bike!

C'est merveilleux!

A special package arrived in the mail today and it was filled with the most wonderful surprises!
My friend, Liane from New Jersey, sent me the most amazing outfit for Rosie.... a Paris dress! And not only a Paris dress but a cute little sweater to go over it and a little beret!  I was so excited when I opened the polk-a-dotted box!! Yea for Jamboree with having Parisian flair for fall 08! Loooove it! And thank you, thank you Liane, Bill, Nik, Sofiya and Tolya! It is all so perfect! C'est merveilleux!

And with all the excitement over the box for Rosie.... there was another polk-a-dot box for Sam. Liane and her family are so thoughtful. They gave Sam a scrapbook with lots of travel stickers and a camera so he can take his own pics of his Russia. How great is that?? Sam was running around the house showing his friends his new camera and stickers... he is ready for the big trip!

And since we're talking about Sam... here is a pic of Sam and Sofiya in Russia.  Liane ( who sent the amazing outfit and gifts for Sam) is the mommy of Sofiya.  They were in Russia adopting Sofiya the same time we were adopting Sam and we all had the best time together. When I think of Russia, I always think about Liane, Bill and Sofiya.  They also have two other children adopted from Russia and it has been so special to keep in touch the past 5 years... wow, over 5 years.

Oh, these precious little baby faces. Doesn't seem that long ago that we were in Russia adopting baby Sam and now he is entering first grade.  Time marches along or I'd like to think it rather skips along. So, a new journey begins with adopting little Rosie.  One day I'll be looking through her scrapbook and remembering the time we are celebrating now.  May I savor each and every second of this journey.
Thank you again Liane... I am in total delight over Rosie's first Parisian outfit! Yipeee!
